The Kookaburra Kids Foundation is an organisation which supports children aged 8-16 years whose families are affected by mental illness. The camps, organised in several age groups covering primary and high school, provide these children the opportunity to break from their caring roles and learn coping strategies, establish contacts with support services and other children in the same situation and have some fun. ZCBB provides around 800 toiletry bags each year, for distribution to each child who attends a KK camp in NSW and ACT. Colourful drawstring bags are made by members and friends and filled with basic items such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, tissues, comb, toothpaste, toothbrush and deodorants. Regular packing days are held and have become an enjoyable social outing for members and friends who pack the bags and chat over morning tea and lunch.
2024 is the last year ZCBB will be undertaking this project as no grant has been forthcoming in 2023 or 2024 to assist with the cost of producing these bags.
